Frequently Asked Questions
Which products does the Christ & Heiri Group manufacture?
Christ & Heiri is a specialised contract manufacturer for high-precision drive components according to customer drawings (built-to-print). The core range includes gears (spur gears), pinions, worm gears, worm shafts, bevel gears, turned parts as well as fully assembled components.
Which specifications and areas of application apply to gears and pinions?
Gears and pinions from the Christ & Heiri Group are used worldwide in diverse and high-precision applications. These include high-precision Swiss watch movements, versatile MedTech products as well as systems for robots, defence technology or drones, where the highest reliability is required. The manufacturing parameters cover a workpiece diameter of 0.2 mm to 100 mm with a maximum workpiece length of 330 mm and a gearing length of up to 200 mm. The maximum gear module is 2.5 in both steel and non-ferrous metals (NF metals).
In what dimensions are worm gears and worm shafts manufactured?
Worm gears and worm shafts are significantly used in the automotive industry, among others, to realise compact gears and high driving comfort. They are used in door locks, seat adjustments, massage functions in seats, automatic tailgates, electric windows as well as cornering light and steering systems. Diameters from 2 mm to 100 mm are manufactured (with a max. workpiece length of 330 mm and gear lengths up to max. 200 mm). The module ranges up to a maximum of 3.5 for non-ferrous metals (NF metals) and up to a maximum of 2.5 for steel.
Which parameters apply to the manufacture of bevel gears?
Bevel gears serve for high-precision power transmission in angular applications and play an essential role in medical technology (for example, in dental drills and other surgical applications). The technical dimensions include workpiece diameters from a tiny 0.2 mm up to 80 mm with a maximum workpiece length of 80 mm (max. gear length 30 mm). The maximum module is 2.0 in non-ferrous metals (NF metals) and 1.0 in steel processing.
Which capacities and dimensions are covered for turned parts?
High-precision Swiss-type and short turned parts form the basis both for our own in-house production of geared components and for downstream production steps at our customers. These turned parts are produced in millions of units in consistently high quality at the Löffingen and Selzach sites, among others, thanks to many years of experience. Workpiece diameters of up to 32 mm with a maximum workpiece length of 350 mm are processed.
Which materials can be processed?
Our machining and gear-cutting expertise encompasses the processing of an enormously wide range of materials. These include a wide variety of free-cutting steels, high-strength stainless steels and case-hardening steels. We also process non-ferrous metals such as brass and bronze, which are often in demand in the watchmaking industry. Furthermore, we machine high-performance plastics (such as POM or PEEK) as well as difficult-to-machine but biocompatible materials such as titanium, which are strictly required for medical implants and instruments. Naturally, we document complete material conformity upon request.
What are the minimum order quantities (MOQ) or the maximum unit quantities?
A major advantage of the Christ & Heiri Group is our extraordinary flexibility in scaling. No matter where you are in your product life cycle: we adapt our production capacities exactly to your needs. Whether a highly specialised small series, the production of initial sample inspection reports (ISIR) and prototypes, or an international large-scale project with fully automated bar loader operation for well over 1 million pieces per year – we have the right setup. We accompany you seamlessly from the first sample through to global series production.
Is the management of a safety stock offered?
Yes, that is part of our extended understanding of service. In order to secure our customers’ supply chain – especially in the highly sensitive automotive and MedTech sectors – against global fluctuations, we offer the management of a dedicated safety stock by individual agreement. We see ourselves not merely as a parts manufacturer, but as an integral component of your supply chain.
